Main Street Market Mornington

Facebook Cover 2014

The Main Street Market Mornington has been a home made, home grown and home baked market since April 1983! When you come to the market you will get the chance to meet stallholders that have been attending the market for over 15 years, and they can tell you why the market is such a special place!

At the market you will find craft, plants and produce, gourmet delights, kids toys and fashion and much more, all on beautiful Main Street Mornington … where the shops meet the sea!

Held every Wednesday on beautiful Main Street Mornington, rain or shine, 9am to 3pm – visit www.facebook.com/mainstreetmarketmornington for further details and updates.

The ongoing popularity of Main Street market has made Mornington a weekly destination for hundreds of shoppers, bringing a regular boost to the local economy, particularly the cafes. Wednesday regularly is one of the busiest days of the week! “The market is known far and wide, and shares Mornington’s success as a friendly, vibrant place to be. Wednesday is ‘market day’; it’s a part of the town’s culture.” said Briars Ward Councillor Bev Colomb, while Councillor Anne Shaw commented that “Mornington market brings such a diversity of local produce and crafts to our wonderful township, it is a true tradition.” Briars Ward Councillor Andrew Dixon enthused that “Mornington market is an awesome example of how the people make the place – it’s a huge community event! There is plenty for the whole family whether it’s budding artists or quality street food!”

We have had a lot of frustrated customers at the market over the last few months because they come to Mornington especially for the market to find no stallholders on the street when the weather is bad. We have decided that it will be better for us to explain that it is a safety risk for some stallholders to attend the market on these days, rather than say nothing and frustrate more customers who after one bad experience at the market will not return.

Although the we aim to operate the market every week there are some weeks where this isn’t possible due to extreme weather, please see below our high wind and heat policies.

High Wind Policy: Please note that when the wind is 30km per hour or above there may be a limited number of stallholders at the market as it is a safety risk for some stallholders to set up. There are certain stalls that will still attend the market, such as fruit & veg stalls so please still come to Main Street to pick up your produce for the week.

Heat Policy: As we have experienced some extreme heat in previous summers we have implemented a heat policy:

  • 40 degrees Celsius or above:  The market may have limited stalls due to the heat
  • 37 – 40 Degrees Celsius: Market times changed to 9am – 12pm

All products offered at the market must be home made, home grown or home baked by the stallholder.
